We started OpenPhone with a simple question. Why has the phone seen no innovation in over a decade?

A phone number is a universal communication channel, yet the software that powers it is stuck in the past. It's especially painful when you're using it for work. Just ask any business that relies on the phone to talk to their customers.

We set out to build a business phone system that people would actually love using.

In the last three years, we have gone from a project to a product powering communications for thousands of small businesses and startups. We have gone from a prototype to the #1 rated business phone service on G2. And from two to 50 amazing people around the world.

While it feels like we’ve come a long way, we’re just getting started.

To help us unlock the next level of growth, we’re looking for our Head of Business Operations and Finance. Maybe this is you? Let us take you behind the scenes so you can see for yourself.

Business Operations

  • Build the company-wide strategic planning process encompassing both long-term and short-term financial, product and GTM objectives.
  • Create a system and cadence for quarterly OKR planning at the company, team and individual level.
  • Build and maintain business and product analytics to visualize all core company and team KPIs (growth, unit economics, product engagement, retention, etc.) and create channels and programs to actively communicate KPI performance and progress.
  • Bootstrap new functions and teams as necessary with specific objectives / measures for success and timelines for transitions (examples below).
  • Building processes, systems and rituals to support cross-functional collaboration, decision-making, and communication.
  • Quarterly Business Review and / or Monthly Business Review to communicate progress against OKRs, core KPI performance, key decisions, milestones, risks / blockers, etc.
  • Experiment with cross-functional decision-making frameworks (DACI / RAPID)

Finance

  • Develop and own the company’s consolidated financial model.
  • Build out systems, cadence and materials for financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Build out the Investor Relations function, including creating materials to update investors (board meetings, informal check-in’s and investor communications) and drive fundraising processes as necessary.
  • Manage day-to-day Accounts Payable and (to a lesser extent) Accounts Receivables, and create a vendor approval / payment process.
