The Opportunity at Volta Charging

The roles and responsibilities of the Volta Finance team includes accounting, financial reporting, analysis, planning, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance. Problem solvers at heart, this team works to fuel Volta’s growth by developing creative solutions in response to accounting and finance challenges.

We are looking for an Intern to join our Finance and Accounting organization, to provide support to departments within the Finance and Accounting organization and Executive Team at Volta. This includes developing, assessing, optimizing and maintaining datasets and reporting tools.

In your 10 week cycle, you will go through a rotation in Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis and Tax for ~3 weeks each. There are 3 opportunities available as apart of this rotation.

During your rotation in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) you will

  • Source and prepare live data related to Volta’s operations from our internal data lakes; prepare KPI metrics using this data to be included in weekly and monthly reporting to senior leadership. This would be in conjunction with the teams financial analyst and corporate FP&A manager
  • Prepare and write up commentary on budget vs. actual variance analyses for projected revenue and expenses. Understand and pinpoint key factors that led to the variance.

During your rotation in Accounting you will

  • Assist in one full-cycle monthly close process by preparing JE’s, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and adding comments to the monthly flux (variance analysis) file. The intern would work directly with corporate accounting to understand the importance of specific JE’s and where the supporting data is saved.
  • Learn the process of quarterly SEC reporting by assisting with the review process conducted by our external auditors as well as the compilation of our reporting packages for our internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the projects accounting process for installation projects and fixed asset account reconciliations
  • Understand and participate in the AP procurement, processing, and payment processes. The project would be to make from start to finish the process to get a vendor approved in NetSuite, adding their invoice and payment terms, and following through until payment is sent to said vendor
  • Learn about the importance of internal audit and provide a list of key points/takeaways. The intern would present their finding to the FP&A team during a “lunch and learn”.

During your rotation in Tax you will

  • Assist with updating Volta business license property tax return listing
  • Learn & assist with the process of obtaining business license with various US municipalities
  • Assist with building /enhancing various reports needed for tax return preparation (direct & indirect tax);
  • Working with cross functional finance teams to understand accounting systems & share ideas of building new reports that support the scaling reporting need
  • Assist with business tax accrual month end closing process
  • Assist with tax mail management

What You Bring To Volta Charging

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Finance or Accounting
  • Ability to come into San Francisco, CA (Headquarters) for a minimum of 3 days a week
  • Comfortable in small company, entrepreneurial environment, constant change
  • Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • High standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple project timelines
  • Strong work ethic and ability and willingness to pivot as new requests and priorities surface
  • The ideal candidate will feel comfortable analyzing large datasets and is comfortable attempting to summarize and parse necessary information/requests
